Support the Syrian WMD Initiative
CFL ALERT: Syria is currently circulating a draft resolution in the 15-nation UN Security Council aimed at turning the Middle East into a "zone free of weapons of mass destruction." CFL applauds any effort to rid the Middle East of such weapons and we call on citizens to write their Representatives and tell them that you expect the US to demand that Israel also destroy its WMDs.
TALKING POINTS:
*The US is accusing Syria and Iran of developing chemical weapons and other WMDs, but has routinely ignored the fact that Israel regularly boasts of nuclear weapons. Recently, Israel even hinted that it would bomb Iraq with nuclear weapons if Saddam were to send any Scuds into Israel.
*The US cannot continue to ignore Israel's nuclear proliferation while stating time and time again that this administration demands a Middle East free of such weapons. Israel is also a part of the Middle East and they should be forced to comply and disarm.
*Tell the President and your Representatives that you are tired of the double standards in the Middle East. Demand an explanation for US hypocrisy which is condemning and threatening Syria and Iran while ignoring Israel, which has over 200 nuclear warheads.
*Arab countries are expressing support for the Syrian proposal. Urge the President not to allow this historic Syrian proposal to slip away.
