Here's my sober idea. The perfect way to sabotage a landing airplane would be to use a focused electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) device. These machines are already being manufactured and marketed to law enforcement for the purpose of stopping fleeing vehicles.

An evil person a few miles [downwind] from the runway could bombard the aircraft with an intense electromagnetic pulse which would cause total electrical failure, instantly knocking out radio communication, disrupting normal engine ignition, and causing loss of steering control.
The steering control surfaces (rudder, ailerons, etc) on this airplane are controlled by individual electrical actuators.
This type of sabotage would probably leave no physical evidence on the aircraft, however it's possible that people at the airport or in the general vicinity might have noticed electrical anomalies like radio noises, a crashed computer, telephone disruption, and the like.
There might even be an eyewitness who noticed that the aircraft's engines went silent or saw the plane veer off course.
